Interested in booking school space for a special event? School facilities can be rented for a wide range of community-based activities and programs that help build strong and healthy communities through arts, culture, education, cultural heritage, sporting, and recreation.

Understanding community-based Special Events vs Private Events

Community-based Special Events
These are open to the public, and community, are typically advertised in the media or on social media, and anyone can attend, or purchase tickets/invites to attend. Examples may include but are not limited to charitable fundraising events (outdoor walks/runs, vendor markets etc.), cultural celebrations, dance recitals, conferences, film screenings, symphony performances and provincial sports competitions. There are a variety of school spaces that are suitable for community-based special events, from outdoor fields to cafeterias, gyms, and 500+ seat auditoriums.

Private Events
The Lambton Kent District School Board and the St. Clair Catholic District School Board do not rent school space for private events. Examples of private events may include but are not limited to team parties, dances, receptions, birthday parties, funerals, memorial services, anniversaries, baby showers, family reunions, corporate gatherings, or other privately sponsored activities.

* CLASS reserves the right to determine the classification of school rentals, and to refuse approval or cancel any permits issued if deemed necessary for the best interests of the Boards.

Booking school space for a community-based Special Event

In addition to the regular online application process, groups booking school space for community-based special events must complete/submit a ‘Special Event’ form. This document helps the Rental Office gather information specific to your event such as parking needs, set-up/equipment needs, food & beverages details (if food will be provided or sold, you may be required to get a temporary food permit) and a clear understanding of what would be taking place during the booking.
