The Extended Day program is specifically developed for four and five-year-old children and functions under the operational framework of the Education Act, R.S.O. 1990 under s.259. The program is offered as before and after school care in Kindergarten classrooms, to reduce transitions and building stronger connections for young children. This program will complement the learning of the regular school day in a full-day kindergarten classroom.

Locally within our District, all Extended Day Programs operated within school facilities are provided by independent, not-for-profit licensed child care operators. Teams of Registered Early Childhood Educators are responsible for the Extended Day Programs. They plan a play-based program that is a mix of exploration, guided and independent activities, quiet times and outdoor play.
The viability of the Extended Day Program is reviewed on an ongoing basis, based on children enrolled in Before and After school programs and the Municipal child care waitlist information.
Extended Day Program rates are set by the individual child care operators and may vary from school to school. For a complete list of Extended Day Programs currently operating, follow the links below:

A waitlist will be monitored in partnership with local municipal service managers to determine if there is sufficient demand and viability to ensure the operation and / or expansion of programs. Should a provider cease to operate, the board will ensure the availability of another child care provider. In this situation, fees and times of operations may change.
